war2 My Trip to the Imperial War Museum

In history we have been learning about what it was like during World War Two, so the teachers decided to take us to the Imperial War Museum to learn more about it. We arrived at the museum all feeling very excited. Our first activity was to look at the amazing exhibits; we looked at the method of transport they used. We looked at tanks and buses. My favourite was the submarine. They travelled deep under water, and it was great in war time because nobody could see you. There was a huge submarine, and I must admit, that after standing there for a short period, I was feeling uncomfortable. I also loved the huge planes that hung above me. After lunch we went to a small room to learn about what it would have been like to spend all night in an air raid shelter. An air raid shelter would have been hidden in the garden and would hold six people. It would have been very noisy and crowded, but at least it was safe. When we had finished learning about the Anderson shelter we had to inspect the three artefacts in front of us. One of the items was a game they would have played in the shelter: it was a game called Shove Ha’penny. There was also a passport with a girl’s name in it,Brenda. She was not evacuated with all the other children and she stayed at home. Her Anderson shelter was luxurious. She had a stove, electricity, radio and a bed. Most people would have had nothing. Sadly the day ended, and I went home feeling that I had learnt an awful lot. The Museum was very interesting and I now know much more about World War Two and what it was like to live in an Anderson shelter. I had thoroughly enjoyed it.
